ACC AustCham Young Leaders Program

The Australia China Council has developed a comprehensive mentoring and work placement program as an initiative to strengthen Australian bilateral economic and cultural relations with China. The program provides career development for graduates through 9-12 month internships with top-tier Australian or multinational companies based in China.

As well as offering work placement, the scholarship provides language training, stipend, mentoring and return flights to China. It is designed for students who have an interest in pursuing a career in the world's fastest growing economy, and those with a passion for strenghtening Australia's relationship with China through business or cultural pursuits.

The award is open to Australian Citizens who are in their final year of study, or those who have recently graduated. Selection is based on academic merit, and demonstrated academic and working interest in the Chinese economy and culture.

Australian Industrial Relations Commission Centennial Prize

To commemorate 100 years of concilliation and arbitration, members of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission established a trust to fund the AIRC Centennial Prize.

Awarded annually, the prize is open for application to research students, both undergraduate and graduate, who have submitted a research essay or thesis in the area of Industrial Relations or Labour History. Selection is based on the quality of the essay or thesis, and the relevane of the research to the AIRC and the community.

The Boston Consulting Group Undergraduate Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for The Boston Consulting Group Undergraduate Scholarship. Valued at $10,000 the award is open to Australian and New Zealand permanent residents and citizens in their penultimate year of undergraduate study.

The successful applicants will demonstrate exceptional ability in academic, leadership, creative, teamwork and communication areas.

Commerce Alumni Leadership Scholarships

Each year, members of the Faculty’s alumni community make donations to support scholarships for current students. It is in this spirit of making a difference that we are pleased to offer the University of Melbourne Commerce Alumni Leadership Scholarships to deserving students.

Available to all Bachelor of Commerce and GSBE students, selection is based on demonstrated community involvement and leadership potential. Candidates must have a grade point average of 65 and above to be eligible.

Candidates may apply directly or be nominated.

Deutsche Bank Penultimate Year Scholarships

Deutsche Bank is pleased to sponsor an annual scholarship to Bachelor of Commerce (and combined degree) penultimate year students. Valued at $6000, the scholarship is open to Bachelor of Commerce students undertaking their penultimate year of study. Combined degree students are eligible to apply, but must be in their penultimate year of study, even if the Commerce component has been completed.

Selection criteria is on the basis of academic merit, extra-curricular activities, interpersonal and leadership skills and qualities which offer evidence that applicants have a genuine interest in the investment banking industry.

Exchange Grants

The Faculty of Business and Economics offers grants to support undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to participate in the Exchange Program. Commerce Exchange Grants are available in addition to any funds that may be awarded through the Melbourne Global Mobility Program. Students who are accepted to undertake exchange in 2010, or semester 1 2011, may be eligible for a Commerce Exchange Grant.

Flagstaff Partners Honours Finance Scholarship

Flagstaff Partners has established a Finance Honours Scholarship. This one year scholarship, valued at $10,000, is available to students currently majoring in Finance who intend to undertake the BCom (Degree with Honours) in Finance in 2012.

Selection is based on academic merit, interview performance and demonstrated interest in investment banking industry as well as interpersonal skills and leadership potential.

Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia Achiever Scholarship

The ICAA has established an Achiever Scholarship. This one year scholarship, valued at $3,000, is available to Accounting Major students undertaking their second year of a New Generation Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2011.

Selection is based on academic merit. Preference will be given to students on Melbourne Access Scholarships or National Equity Scholarships or any student who qualifies for Financial Hardship support in that year. The scholarship recipient and the three other shortlisted applicants will be invited to engage with one of the Institute’s affiliated organisations, which in 2011 will be Deloitte.

Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia Study Tour Bursary

In order to encourage participation in the European Study Tour the ICAA is pleased to sponsor a bursary for Bachelor of Commerce students. The Bursary is open to students undertaking their second or third year of a New Generation Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2011. Valued at $3,000 it is payable as a bursary to cover the expenses entailed in the European study tour offered in the International Accounting Study Program.

The successful candidate will be expected to make a presentation about the Study Tour to the Institute of Chartered Accountants on their return.

Kinsman Studentship Awards

A studentship of $1500 is available to students completing the Bachelor of Commerce Honours program. This scholarship is to provide encouragement for Honours students to develop their research essay so that it can be published as a paper in a refereed journal. Students must be working jointly with a supervisor or advisor.

Selection is based on the quality of the research essay, and the potential for the essay to result in a publishable paper.

In addition to the studentship, the four best research papers supported under the Scheme annually will receive a prize known as the Kinsman Honours Research Essay Prize. One prize will be awarded from each of the Departments (Accounting, Economics, Finance and Management and Marketing). The value of the prize is $500.

Lorna Stirling Fund

Travelling Scholarship available to students currently enrolled at The University of Melbourne

Ms Lorna Stirling was a Music Director in the Melbourne University Drama Club in the 1940s. On her death in 1956 she bequeathed funds to the University for the purpose of promoting international student relationships through the creation of scholarships for the exchange of students between The University of Melbourne and other universities.

Masters Research Essay Studentship and Prize

The primary aim of this studentship is to provide encouragement for Masters graduates who have completed a research thesis/report/essay to develop their research so that it can be published as a paper in a refereed journal.

The studentship will be $1500, payable on receipt of evidence that the article has been submitted to a refereed journal.

Monbukagakusho Scholarship

The Japanese Government is offering the Monbukagakusho Scholarships to Australian citizens for study at Japanese Universities. Applicants must be graduates or final year students under 35 years of age, and willing to undertake Japanese language studies.

Awards are tenable for 2 years, starting in April 2011. Full details available from the Embassy of Japan in Australia.

Robin D. Hocking Scholarship

The University and Ormond College offer annually a memorial scholarship, valued at $8,000 in 2012. Applicants must be intending to undertake the Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) or the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Economics, or be in their final year of the Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Economics. The tenure of the scholarship is for one year during which time the successful candidate must be a resident member of Ormond College. (Candidates need not be a resident at the time of application.)Selection is based on academic merit and interview performance.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships are vocational and educations exchanges for young students aged between 24 and 30. The program aims to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and geographical areas. The program offers sponsorship of several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies.

Academic-Year scholarships provide a flat grant of US$24,000 for one academic year of study in another country. This year Rotary District 9800 will be awarding an Ambassadorial Scholarship to one student for study in 2010. Candidates with strong leadership abilities and potential will be highly regarded.

The successful applicant will be allocated a host councilor who will act as a mentor and friend.

Rural Finance Scholarships

Rural Finance is committed to the on-going education and skills development of young farmers and other young people involved in Victorian agriculture. Each year, they offer scholarships valued at up to $6000 per annum to Victorian students for the duration of their course.

Applicants must be in their first or second year of study in a tertiary institution in Victoria, studying agriculture, business, food science, forestry, applied science, horticulture or vet science. Candidates must be under 26 years of age and demonstrate a career commitment that will ultimately benefit agriculture.

Shell Personal Development Award

The Shell Personal Development Award (PDA) is a monetary grant given to students who are undertaking activities that will aid their personal development. The awards are open to undergraduate students in either their first or second year. They must have Australian citizenship or Permanent Residency and be studying one of the following disciplines:

Successful applicants will receive $1000 dollars.

Students need to submit their resume, fill in the online questionnaire and provide a description of the activity for which they are claiming the PDA. Applicants will be shortlisted for a telephone interview.

Applicants will be judged on the strength of their resume and the activity they wish to undertake. If they progress to the next stage they will be then assessed on their performance in the interview. The competencies Shell is looking for are 'Capacity', 'Achievement' and 'Relationships':

Capacity: the intellectual, analytical and creative ability to learn quickly, identify issues, make judgments and propose solutions.

Achievement: a demonstrable history of setting challenging goals. There will be an expectation of enthusiasm, resilience and confidence. Successful applicants will be those who can always get things done.

Relationships: teamwork, communication skills and respect for others.

University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarships 2009/2010

The University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarships are an initiative to provide promising students with the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of research work. Available to undergraduate, honours and first year Masters students, the Scholarships are offered in various disciplines during the 2009/2010 summer study break.

The value of each scholarship offered is $5000.

Wilfred Prest Travelling Fellowship

The Wilfred Prest Fellowship is open to students or graduates of The University of Melbourne who will be undertaking postgraduate studies in the field of Economics at an overseas university or research institution.

Applicants must either be completing a degree specialising in Economics at the University (Bachelor, Honours, Master or PhD) or be an Economics graduate of the University, and be no more than 27 years of age.

The value of the Fellowship in 2011 is $11,170.
