Student Societies

There are many student clubs and societies at the University of Melbourne and they are an ideal way to meet other student with similar interests. They range from film societies and theatre groups to bush-walking and snow-skiing clubs.

The Faculty of Economics and Commerce also has seven different student societies that cater to the different disciplines taught and the interests of the student body. The societies offer both social and professional/career development opportunities.

Commerce Students' Society

The Commerce Students' Society is a faculty based student club which ultimately serves to bridge the gaps between the student body, commercial industry and the academic framework of Melbourne University.

The Commerce Students' Society's aim is to provide students with an environment to socialise among their peers and potential employers, to learn about and be exposed to industries interested in Commerce graduates, and to voice communications to the Faculty and Dean

Our purpose is to offer events and opportunities conducive to networking, employment and of equal importance, fun. The Commerce Students' Society fosters happy, productive, aware students, who realise their potential and grasp responsibility. Our concern in the standard and presentation of the academic curriculum reflects suggestions and criticisms of the students themselves. Our interest in service industries and product companies convey the curiosity of students who want choices

Corporate and Faculty involvement avails many opportunities previously denied, whilst spreading product knowledge and preference. This financial support offers superior functions and the chance for companies to establish themselves in the forefront of the minds of potential value-adding employees.

International Commerce Students' Society

The International Commerce Students' Society was created in 1993 due to the growing need of overseas commerce students who felt the need for representation within the Faculty of Economics and Commerce.

Today, ICSS is well regarded as a representative body for international students as well as providing support for local students from non-English speaking backgrounds and also local students with an interest in international business.
The objectives of ICSS have been expanded to provide opportunities for members and international organizations to meet the increasing demand for employees with international experience and diverse language/cultural skills.

With regard to events, ICSS organizes many social activities with the aim of encouraging friendships between students across all year levels. They also organize occasions such as the annual Bridges to Asia Corporate Dinner to provide opportunities to meet future employers.

Management & Marketing Students' Group

The Marketing Student's Group was founded in 1999 by students who felt that existing clubs didn't offer much in the way of management and marketing information and events for students specializing in these fields. This year we have broadened our horizons due to a demand for events for management students, and become the Marketing and Management Students Group.

The Marketing and Management Students' Group holds a mixture of corporate and social events, allowing members to mingle with people in the industry as well as fellow students, developing networks which may prove invaluable in the future, and above all- have a great time.
